  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • For the crumble topping:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 12 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, diced

  2. In a large bowl, toss apples with lemon juice, vanilla, sugar, cinnamon, and flour until evenly coated.
  3. Spread apple mixture evenly in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish or 12-inch cast-iron skillet.

  7. Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Add chopped nuts to the topping for extra crunch.
  • Combine with pears or cranberries for a fruit variation.
  • Use gluten-free flour and oats for a gluten-free version.
  • Drizzle with caramel sauce before baking for a decadent twist.
  • Reduce sugar by half for a less sweet version.
