Ingredients

1 cup brown sugar

1 cup rolled oats

1 cup all-purpose flour

½ cup butter, melted

3 cups apples, peeled, cored, and chopped

½ cup white sugar

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 °F (175 °C). Lightly grease an 8-inch square pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix brown sugar, oats, flour, and melted butter until crumbly.
  3. Press half of the crumb mixture into the bottom of the pan. Layer chopped apples evenly over it.
  4. Sprinkle apples with white sugar and cinnamon. Top with the remaining crumb mixture.
  5. Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

  • Add chopped nuts for crunch or dried fruit like cranberries or blueberries for extra flavor.
  • Use rhubarb or mixed berries instead of apples for a tart twist.
  • Use gluten-free flour to make it gluten-friendly.
  • Add lemon juice or a little cornstarch to the apple layer for brightness or thickness.
