Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup black sesame seeds
  • 1/4 cup poppy seeds
  • 2 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 1/2 tsp charcoal powder (optional, for black color)
  • 1 tsp garlic granules
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt flakes
  • 2/3 cup chickpea flour (besan)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/3 cup warm water
  • Guacamole (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 320°F (160°C).
  2. Mix sesame seeds, poppy seeds, nutritional yeast, charcoal powder (if using), garlic granules, sea salt, chickpea flour, olive oil, and warm water in a bowl. Let rest 5 minutes.
  3. Place dough between two sheets of baking paper. Roll to 0.25–0.5 cm thickness.
  4. Remove top sheet and cut out bat shapes with a cookie cutter or knife.
  5. Bake 20–25 minutes until crispy and firm.
  6. Cool completely, then serve with guacamole.

Notes

  • Add chili flakes for a spicy version.
  • Mix dried oregano or thyme into the dough for extra herbal flavor.
  • Omit charcoal powder for lighter-colored crackers.
  • Store baked crackers in an airtight container up to 1 week.
  • Refresh softened crackers in a 300°F oven for a few minutes.
