Ingredients

2 cups + 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons matcha powder (sifted)

1 cup unsalted butter (browned)

½ cup granulated sugar

1 cup light brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 eggs, room temperature

1 cup white chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Brown the butter: In a light-colored saucepan, melt butter over medium heat until golden and aromatic with brown bits. Transfer to a heat-proof bowl and cool slightly.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and sifted matcha powder.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk browned butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and eggs until light and creamy (about 1 minute).
  4. Form the dough: Fold the dry mixture into the wet ingredients until fully combined. Stir in white chocolate chips.
  5. Chill: Cover and refrigerate dough for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Scoop dough using a 3-tablespoon scoop and place onto baking sheets, leaving 2–3 inches between cookies.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until bottoms are lightly golden and edges are set.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Increase matcha powder by 1 tablespoon for a bolder flavor and deeper color.
  • Chill dough longer (up to 72 hours) or add 2 tablespoons flour to reduce spread.
  • Dust finished cookies with sifted matcha for extra flair and flavor.
  • Reduce sugar slightly or increase matcha to balance sweetness.
  • Add a slice of white bread to storage containers to keep cookies soft.
