Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup salted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tub (or 1 cup) white frosting (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/3 cup crushed candy canes

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8-inch square baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter with a hand or stand mixer until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time until fully combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  5. Add dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix on low speed just until incorporated.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips by hand.
  7. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish and bake for about 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Let brownies cool completely in the pan.
  9. Once cooled, spread frosting evenly over the top.
  10. Sprinkle crushed candy canes over the frosting. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

  • Swap semi-sweet chips for white or dark chocolate chips for variety.
  • Use coconut sugar or sugar-free candy canes for a lower sugar version.
  • Top with nuts, pretzels, or sprinkles for added texture and flavor.
  • Wrap and freeze individual brownies for up to 3 months.
  • Use gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version.
