Ingredients

  • 1 can (21 oz / 595 g) cherry pie filling
  • 1 box (15.25 oz / 432 g) chocolate cake mix
  • ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter, melted, or 1 stick sliced thin
  • ½ cup (85 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Spread the cherry pie filling evenly in the bottom of the prepared dish. Stir in almond extract, if using.
  3. Evenly sprinkle the dry chocolate cake mix over the cherry filling without mixing.
  4. Top with chocolate chips, spreading them evenly over the surface.
  5. Drizzle melted butter over the top or place butter slices to cover as much of the surface as possible.
  6. Bake for 40–45 minutes until the top is set and slightly crisp, and edges are bubbling.
  7. Cool for 10 minutes before serving warm.

Notes

  • Do not stir the layers to maintain the dump cake texture.
  • Best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
  • Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Optional almond extract enhances cherry flavor but is not required.
