Ingredients

  • 8 oz (226 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup (57 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 cups (190 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
  2. Make the Cream Cheese Filling: In a medium bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add granulated sugar and vanilla extract and continue mixing until well combined. Add the egg and mix until fluffy and smooth.
  3. Prepare the Dough: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the cream cheese mixture, stirring just until combined. The dough will be soft and slightly sticky.
  4. Shape the Dainties: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Place them 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet. Gently flatten each ball with the back of a spoon, creating a slight indentation in the center.
  5. Bake the Dainties: Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers will remain soft and slightly puffed. Be sure to check at the 12-minute mark to avoid overbaking.
  6. Cool and Finish: Allow the dainties to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar for a sweet finishing touch.

Notes

  • If you prefer, you can use regular granulated sugar for dusting instead of powdered sugar.
  • Customize with chocolate chips, dried fruit, or chopped nuts added to the dough before baking.
  • If the dough is too soft to handle, chill it in the fridge for 15 minutes before shaping.
