Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, heat treated
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 to 6 tablespoons milk, as needed
  • 1/4 to 1/3 cup chopped chocolate or chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat treat the flour by microwaving it in a microwave-safe bowl for 1–2 minutes or baking it at 350°F (175°C) for 5 minutes. Let it cool completely.
  2. In a medium bowl, melt the butter. Add the brown sugar and granulated sugar and whisk until smooth.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Add the cooled flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Mix until combined and a thick dough forms.
  5. Add 3 tablespoons of milk and stir. Add more milk 1 tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips or chopped chocolate if using. Serve immediately or chill slightly for a firmer texture.

Notes

  • Let the flour cool completely after heat-treating before adding to the mix.
  • Chill the batter for 10–15 minutes for a firmer texture if desired.
  • Add-ins like nuts, sprinkles, or nut butter add variety and texture.
  • Use gluten-free flour and plant-based substitutes for dietary needs.
