Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cans (14.5 oz each) green beans, drained, or 4 cups fresh/frozen green beans
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk or beef broth
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups French fried onions
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt to taste
  • Optional: 1/2 cup sautéed mushrooms
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon ketchup or mustard
  • Optional: cooked turkey-based “bacon-style” crumbles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, cook ground beef with diced onion and garlic over medium heat until browned and onions are soft. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in green beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk or broth, Worcestershire sauce, pepper, paprika, and salt. Mix until fully combined.
  4. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  5. Top with shredded cheddar cheese, then sprinkle French fried onions evenly over the top.
  6. Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  7. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh green beans for a firmer bite—blanch before adding.
  • Mix half of the cheese into the filling for a cheesier casserole.
  • Sautéed mushrooms, ketchup, or mustard add stronger burger flavor.
  • Swap beef with turkey for a lighter option.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze unbaked for 3 months.
