Ingredients

  • 4 medium oranges, freshly juiced (about 2 cups juice)
  • 1/2 small very ripe cantaloupe, seeded and cut into cubes (about 2 cups cubed)
  • 1 inch fresh ginger root, peeled and sliced
  • 1 small knob fresh turmeric root, peeled and sliced, or 1 teaspoon ground turmeric powder
  • 6 ice cubes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Juice the oranges until you have approximately 2 cups of fresh orange juice.
  2. Add the orange juice, cubed cantaloupe, sliced ginger, and fresh turmeric or ground turmeric to a high-speed blender.
  3. Add the ice cubes if serving immediately.
  4. Blend on high speed for 60 to 90 seconds until completely smooth.
  5. Taste and adjust if desired. For a smoother texture, strain through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth, or leave unstrained for added fiber.
  6. If not using ice, refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
  7. Stir well and serve chilled.

Notes

  • Add the juice of 1/2 lemon for extra citrus flavor.
  • Blend in 1/2 cup fresh pineapple chunks for added sweetness.
  • Reduce ginger to 1/2 inch for a milder flavor.
  • Add a pinch of black pepper to enhance turmeric absorption.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours and shake before serving.
