Ingredients

  • 1 Italian or French loaf, sliced lengthwise
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced or roasted
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • Optional: 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix softened butter, garlic, parsley, Parmesan cheese, olive oil, and sea salt until smooth and well combined.
  3. Place bread halves cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over both halves, covering all edges.
  5. If desired, sprinkle shredded mozzarella evenly over the top.
  6. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown and crisp around the edges. For extra crispiness, broil for 1 to 2 minutes, watching carefully.
  7. Remove from oven, cool slightly, slice into portions, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Substitute 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder per clove if fresh garlic is unavailable.
  • Wrap loosely in foil before baking for softer garlic bread.
  • Prepare ahead and refrigerate up to 24 hours before baking.
  • Freeze unbaked prepared bread for up to 3 months.
  • Reduce salt if using salted butter.
