Ingredients

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking trays with parchment paper.
  2. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Mix in buttermilk, maple extract, vanilla extract, baking soda, salt, and baking powder.
  5. Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
  6. Scoop dough onto baking trays, spacing cookies apart.
  7. Bake for 6–8 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  8. Cool briefly, then transfer to a rack to cool completely.
  9. For icing, melt butter and brown sugar in a saucepan until smooth.
  10. Add milk, maple syrup, and salt, then remove from heat.
  11. Cool slightly, then beat in confectioners’ sugar until smooth.
  12. Spread icing over cooled cookies and let set before serving.
