Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds fresh green beans, ends trimmed
  • 2 cups marinara sauce or crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 to 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • Ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Optional: chopped fresh basil leaves

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and prepare a bowl of ice water.
  2. Blanch green beans in boiling water for 3–4 minutes, then transfer to ice water to cool. Drain well.
  3. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and lightly oil a baking dish.
  4. In a large bowl, toss green beans with marinara sauce, olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  5. Spread mixture evenly in the prepared dish and roast for 15 minutes, until the sauce is bubbling and beans are tender.
  6. Sprinkle mozzarella on top and broil for about 4 minutes, until the cheese is melted and golden.
  7. Garnish with fresh basil if using, and serve warm.
