Ingredients

  • 3 green tea bags or 2 tablespoons loose leaf green tea
  • 2 teaspoons matcha powder
  • 1/4 cup sugar of your choice (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 cup milk of choice per latte
  • Ice for iced latte (about 1 cup)
  • 4 frozen cubes of the matcha latte concentrate
  • 1/2 cup milk of choice
  • 2 tablespoons plain or vanilla coffee creamer
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Additional ice cubes as needed
  • Whipped cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare 2 cups of green tea by steeping at 175°F (80°C) for 3 minutes using either tea bags or loose leaf tea. Stir in sugar until fully dissolved and set aside.
  2. Sift the matcha powder into a flat-bottom bowl to remove any clumps.
  3. Add 2 cups of hot water (175°F / 80°C) to the sifted matcha and whisk rapidly for about 2 minutes until frothy.
  4. Combine the sweetened green tea with the whisked matcha in a large bowl or pitcher. Whisk thoroughly to combine.
  5. Transfer the finished 4 cups of concentrate into a clean, sealable bottle and refrigerate. Keeps for up to 7 days.
  6. To Make an Iced Latte: Fill a glass with ice, add 1/2 cup concentrate and 1/2 cup milk. Stir and serve.
  7. To Make a Hot Latte: Combine 1/2 cup concentrate and 1/2 cup milk in a mug. Microwave for about 2 minutes, checking every 30 seconds until hot. Stir and serve.
  8. To Make a Matcha Frappé: Freeze some concentrate in ice cube trays. Add 4 frozen cubes, 1/2 cup milk, creamer, and optional vanilla to a blender. Blend until smooth. Adjust texture with extra ice or milk if needed. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Shake concentrate before use as separation may occur.
  • Use latte-grade or culinary-grade matcha for optimal flavor and color.
  • Customize sweetness or go sugar-free if preferred.
  • Freeze leftover concentrate in ice cube trays for future frappés.
  • Try adding cinnamon or vanilla for extra warmth and complexity.
