Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 green cardamom pod
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon finely grated orange zest
  • Optional: extra orange zest for serving

Instructions

  1. Split the cardamom pod and remove the seeds. Lightly crush the seeds using a mortar and pestle or the flat side of a spoon.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine the milk, crushed cardamom seeds, orange zest, and honey.
  3. Heat over medium-low heat until the milk is very hot but not boiling, stirring to dissolve the honey.
  4. Remove from heat and strain the milk to remove the cardamom and zest. Reserve a pinch of zest for garnish if desired.
  5. Optionally, froth the milk using a frother or by pouring it back and forth between mugs.
  6. Pour into a warm mug, top with reserved zest, and enjoy hot.

Notes

  • Use oat or almond milk for a dairy-free version.
  • Swap orange zest with lemon zest for a brighter note.
  • Add a pinch of cinnamon or a drop of vanilla extract for extra depth.
  • Do not boil the milk to preserve the delicate flavors.
