Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (about 8 ounces / 225 grams), thawed but still cool
  • 1/2 cup (100 grams) granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons (42 grams) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom

Instructions

  1. Remove puff pastry from refrigerator 15–20 minutes before using so it softens slightly while remaining cool.
  2. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together sugar, cinnamon, cardamom, and salt.
  4. Lightly flour a work surface and unroll the puff pastry, smoothing gently if needed.
  5. Brush melted butter evenly over the pastry surface.
  6. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the butter and gently press it into the pastry.
  7. Fold the pastry in half lengthwise.
  8. Slice into 12 equal strips using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.
  9. Twist each strip several times and place on prepared baking sheet, spacing apart.
  10. Bake for 14–15 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
  11. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Press sugar mixture lightly into butter to help it adhere.
  • Bake until deep golden for maximum crispness.
  • Store at room temperature up to 3 days in an airtight container.
  • Reheat in oven at 325°F (160°C) for 5–7 minutes to restore flakiness.
  • Reduce sugar slightly for a less sweet version.
