Ingredients

  • 6 cups fresh Saskatoon berries
  • 24 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup large flake rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup oat flour
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 7×11-inch baking dish.
  2. In the baking dish, combine the Saskatoon berries, maple syrup, lemon juice, and water. Stir gently and spread evenly.
  3. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter for about 30 seconds until fully liquid.
  4. Add the rolled oats, oat flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and sea salt to the melted butter.
  5. Stir until the mixture is well combined and crumbly.
  6. Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the berry filling.
  7. Bake for about 45 minutes until the berry filling is bubbling and the topping is golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and allow the crisp to rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
  9. Serve warm on its own or with ice cream or whipped cream if desired.

Notes

  • If Saskatoon berries are unavailable, blueberries can be used as a substitute.
  • For a dairy-free version, replace the butter with melted coconut oil.
  • Add chopped walnuts, almonds, or pecans to the crumble for extra texture.
  • You can prepare oat flour by blending rolled oats until fine.
  • Allow the crisp to cool slightly after baking so the filling thickens.
