Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk melted butter, eggs, buttermilk, maple syrup, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Fold wet ingredients into dry ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pan and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let cool in pan for 15–20 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Slice into bars and serve. Optionally, drizzle with a maple glaze.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the batter to keep bars soft and fluffy.
  • A maple glaze made with powdered sugar and maple syrup enhances flavor.
  • Add nuts or mini chocolate chips for variation.
  • Use high-quality maple syrup for best taste.
