Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 (12-ounce) bag fresh cranberries
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • Flesh from 1 orange, chopped
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg

Instructions

  2. Add cranberries and chopped orange flesh. Return to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low.
  3. Cook about 8 minutes, until two-thirds of the cranberries pop and sauce thickens.
  4. Transfer to a bowl and let rest at room temperature for at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

  • Add a splash of Cognac or Grand Marnier for extra depth.
  • Stir in dried cherries or raisins for texture.
  • Add a pinch of cloves or allspice for warmth.
  • Replace some sugar with honey for a lighter sweetness.
  • Make ahead for best flavor—keeps well in fridge up to 1 week or frozen for 2 months.
