Ingredients

  • 810 slices white sandwich bread, crusts removed
  • 1/2 cup fresh strawberries, diced
  • 1/3 cup Nutella or hazelnut spread
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (plus extra for coating)
  • 1/4 cup sugar (for coating)
  • Butter, for cooking

Instructions

  1. Flatten each slice of bread with a rolling pin.
  2. Spread a thin layer of Nutella over the bread, then add a few diced strawberries.
  3. Roll each slice tightly and set aside.
  4. In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
  5. Dip each rollup quickly into the egg mixture, coating all sides.
  6. Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat. Cook rollups, turning to brown all sides evenly.
  7. In a small dish, mix sugar and a pinch of cinnamon. Roll cooked rollups in cinnamon-sugar mixture while still warm.
  8. Serve immediately for best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Use bananas instead of strawberries for a richer flavor.
  • Peanut butter makes a great Nutella substitute.
  • Skip the cinnamon-sugar coating and use powdered sugar for a lighter version.
  • Prepare the rollups ahead of time and cook in the morning.
  • To reheat, use oven or skillet for best texture; avoid microwaving.
