  • ½ cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 large egg
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • For the Sweet and Sour Sauce:

  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, bread crumbs, onion, egg, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into 1½-inch meatballs.
  3. In a large nonstick skillet over medium heat, cook the meatballs in batches until browned and cooked through.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together brown sugar, water, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, and cornstarch until smooth.
  5. Pour the sauce over the cooked meatballs, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 3–5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  6. Serve hot over rice, noodles, or as an appetizer.

Notes

  • Substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken.
  • Add diced bell peppers or pineapple to the sauce for extra flavor.
  • Use chili garlic sauce or red pepper flakes for heat.
  • Frozen pre-cooked meatballs can be used in place of homemade.
  • Arrowroot or flour can replace cornstarch as a thickener.
