Ingredients

  • For the crust:
    • 1 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs
    • ⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted
    • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • For the custard:
    • 2 cups whole milk
    • 1 cup heavy cream
    • ¾ cup granulated sugar
    • 5 large egg yolks
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • For the whipped cream:
    • 1 ½ cups heavy cream
    • ¼ cup powdered sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional garnish:
    • ½ cup crushed graham crackers or cookies
    • ¼ cup white chocolate shavings

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×9-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. Combine graham cracker crumbs, melted butter, and sugar. Press into the pan and bake for 10 minutes. Cool completely.
  3. Heat milk and cream in a saucepan over medium heat until just simmering.
  4. In a bowl, whisk sugar, egg yolks, vanilla, and cornstarch until smooth. Slowly whisk in ½ cup hot milk, then combine with remaining milk in saucepan.
  5. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened (5–7 minutes). Remove from heat and cool for 5 minutes.
  6. Pour custard over crust, spread evenly, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours until set.
  7. Beat heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until stiff peaks form. Spread over custard.
  8. Top with crushed graham crackers or white chocolate if desired. Slice and serve chilled.

Notes

  • Add citrus zest for a fruity variation.
  • Mix chopped nuts into crust for added crunch.
  • Use reduced-fat milk and less sugar for a lighter version.
  • Layer with chocolate ganache for a richer dessert.
  • Chill well and use a clean knife for neat slices.
