Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey (93% lean)
  • ¾ cup cooked short- or medium-grain rice (about 150 g)
  • 3 teaspoons sesame oil, divided
  • 1 cup finely chopped vegetables (broccoli, carrots, spinach, zucchini, or similar)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly oil it.
  2. Finely chop the vegetables using a knife or food processor.
  3. Heat 1 teaspoon of sesame oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add vegetables and cook for about 5 minutes until softened. Transfer to a large bowl.
  4. Add cooked rice, remaining sesame oil, and garlic powder to the vegetables. Stir to combine.
  5. Add ground turkey and gently mix by hand until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. With damp hands, shape the mixture into small meatballs and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Place a small oven-safe dish of water on the baking sheet to create steam.
  8. Bake for 20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until fully cooked.
  9. Allow to cool slightly before serving, especially for babies and toddlers.

Notes

  • Make meatballs small and soft for babies learning to self-feed.
  • Rice helps keep the texture moist and easy to chew.
  • Substitute olive or avocado oil for sesame oil if needed.
  • Different vegetables can be used as long as they are finely chopped.
  • Always check temperature before serving to children.
