  • 1 large broccoli head, cut into small florets
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 5 garlic cloves, finely minced
  • 1/2 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon oyster sauce
  • 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Wash the broccoli thoroughly under cold water and cut it into bite-sized florets. Peel and slice the stem if desired.
  2. Bring a medium pot of water to a boil. Add the salt and olive oil.
  3. Add the broccoli and cook for 3 to 5 minutes until bright green and slightly tender while still crisp.
  4. Drain the broccoli well and set aside.
  5. Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat.
  6. Add the minced garlic and stir constantly for about 1 minute until fragrant and lightly golden.
  7. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and water until smooth.
  8. Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet and stir continuously for 10 to 15 seconds until slightly thickened.
  9. Add the cooked broccoli to the skillet and toss until evenly coated with the garlic sauce.
  10. Cook for another minute while stirring gently.
  11. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • Do not overcook the broccoli to maintain a crisp texture and vibrant color.
  • For extra heat, add red chili flakes or sliced chili peppers.
  • Vegetarian mushroom sauce can replace oyster sauce for a vegetarian version.
  • Add carrots, mushrooms, bell peppers, or snap peas for extra vegetables.
  • This dish pairs well with rice, noodles, tofu, seafood, or chicken.
  • Fresh garlic gives the best flavor, but garlic paste may also be used.
