Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 packet unflavored gelatin (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1/4 cup cold milk or water for blooming gelatin
  • Fresh strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries for topping
  • 1/2 cup fruit coulis or berry sauce (optional)
  • Mint leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, pour the cold milk or water and sprinkle the gelatin evenly over the surface. Let it bloom for 5 to 10 minutes.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, and sugar over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the sugar fully dissolves. Do not boil.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the bloomed gelatin and vanilla extract until fully dissolved.
  4. For a smoother texture, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a large measuring jug or bowl.
  5. Pour the panna cotta mixture evenly into ramekins, molds, or dessert glasses.
  6. Allow the desserts to cool slightly at room temperature.
  7. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight until fully set.
  8. Before serving, top with fresh berries, fruit coulis, or your preferred sauce.
  9. Garnish with mint leaves if desired and serve chilled.

Notes

  • Do not boil the cream mixture or the texture may become grainy.
  • Straining the mixture creates an extra silky finish.
  • Dip ramekins briefly in warm water for easy unmolding.
  • Panna cotta can be prepared up to 2 days ahead.
  • Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
