Ingredients

  • 600 g thin slices of beef (top round or flank steak)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup pine nuts
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Kitchen twine or toothpicks

Instructions

  1. Lay beef slices flat and pound if needed to thin them evenly. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. Mix breadcrumbs, Parmesan, parsley, garlic, raisins, and pine nuts in a bowl.
  3. Spread filling onto each beef slice, leaving edges clear, then roll tightly and secure with twine or toothpicks.
  4. Heat olive oil in a pan and sear the rolls on all sides until browned.
  5. Remove rolls and sauté onion in the same pan until soft.
  6. Add tomato sauce and oregano, stirring well.
  7. Return beef rolls to the pan, cover, and simmer on low for 1.5 to 2 hours until tender.
  8. Remove twine or toothpicks before serving and spoon sauce over the braciole.

Notes

  • Slow cooking ensures tender and flavorful meat.
  • Raisins add a subtle sweetness but can be omitted.
  • Can be prepared ahead and cooked later.
  • Leftovers taste even better the next day.
