Ingredients

  • 8 large eggs (about 400 g)
  • 280 g granulated sugar
  • 240 g cake flour
  • 40 g unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 8 g baking powder
  • 100 g unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 6 g vanilla extract
  • 300 g glossy chocolate frosting
  • 150 g candy-coated chocolate pieces
  • 6 sprinkle-coated chocolate truffles
  • 6 candy-coated chocolate truffles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 175°C and grease and line two 20 cm round cake pans.
  2. Beat the eggs and sugar until pale, thick, and fluffy.
  3. Sift together cake flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder, then gently fold into the egg mixture.
  4. Add melted butter and vanilla extract, folding carefully until smooth.
  5. Divide batter evenly between pans and bake for 25–30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Place one layer on a serving plate, spread frosting on top, and place the second layer over it.
  8. Cover the entire cake with remaining frosting, smoothing the top and sides.
  9. Decorate the base with candy-coated chocolates.
  10. Arrange truffles in a crown pattern on top, alternating styles.
  11. Chill briefly before serving to set the frosting.
