Ingredients

  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (50 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups (300 g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240 ml) milk
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) hot water or coffee
  • 200 g semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a loaf pan.
  2. Sift flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Whisk sugar and eggs until light.
  4. Add milk, oil, and vanilla and mix well.
  5. Combine dry ingredients with wet mixture.
  6. Slowly add hot water or coffee and mix until smooth.
  7. Pour batter into pan and bake for 50–60 minutes.
  8. Cool cake completely on a rack.
  9. Heat cream until just simmering, pour over chocolate, and stir until smooth.
  10. Pour ganache over cooled cake and let set before slicing.

  • Do not overmix the batter to keep the cake tender.
  • Use coffee instead of water to enhance chocolate flavor.
  • Allow cake to cool before adding ganache.
