Ingredients

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch square baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs and granulated sugar until smooth and slightly pale.
  3. Add the honey and whisk until fully combined.
  4. Pour in the whole milk, heavy cream, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  5. Gradually whisk in the flour and salt until no lumps remain. The batter will be thin.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and tap gently on the counter to release air bubbles.
  7. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes until the top is lightly golden and the center is set but still slightly soft.
  8. Allow the custard to cool completely at room temperature.
  9. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours until fully chilled and firm.
  10. Slice into squares and dust with powdered sugar if desired before serving.

Notes

  • The batter is naturally thin and will firm up while baking and chilling.
  • Whole milk provides the creamiest texture.
  • Chilling overnight improves flavor and texture.
  • Use a clean sharp knife for neat slices.
  • Store refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
