Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons butter for greasing the skillet
  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate bar, chopped
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butterscotch chips
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • Vanilla ice cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place 2 tablespoons of butter into a 12-inch cast iron skillet and allow it to melt in the oven while preheating.
  3. In a saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter together with the chopped chocolate bar, stirring until smooth.
  4. Remove the chocolate mixture from heat and let it cool slightly.
  5. In a large bowl, beat together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy.
  6. Gradually mix in the flour and salt until fully incorporated.
  7. Pour the melted chocolate mixture into the batter and stir until smooth.
  8. Fold in the butterscotch chips, chocolate chips, and chopped pecans evenly.
  9. Carefully remove the hot skillet from the oven and pour the batter into it, spreading evenly.
  10. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until the edges are set and the center remains slightly soft.
  11. Allow the brownies to cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
  12. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream if desired.

Notes

  • Do not overbake to maintain a gooey center.
  • Walnuts or almonds can replace pecans.
  • Swirl caramel sauce into the batter for extra richness.
  • Sprinkle flaky sea salt on top for a sweet-and-salty finish.
  • Mini marshmallows can be added for a rocky road variation.
  • These brownies are best served warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container to keep them moist and chewy.
