Ingredients

  • 8 slices soft white sandwich bread
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Tomato soup or marinara sauce for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Remove the crusts from each slice of bread using a sharp knife.
  2. Use a rolling pin to flatten each bread slice until thin and flexible.
  3. Sprinkle about 3 tablespoons of shredded cheddar cheese evenly over each slice, leaving a small border around the edges.
  4. Starting from one side, tightly roll the bread into a log shape and press gently to seal.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with garlic powder and parsley if using.
  6. Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease if needed.
  7. Brush each roll-up with the butter mixture and place seam-side down in the skillet.
  8. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side, turning carefully until all sides are golden brown and crispy.
  9. Remove from the skillet and let cool for 1 minute before serving.
  10. Serve warm with tomato soup or marinara sauce for dipping if desired.

Notes

  • Softer sandwich bread rolls more easily without tearing.
  • Mozzarella, Monterey Jack, or Colby cheese can be used instead of cheddar.
  • For extra crispiness, cook over medium heat and avoid overcrowding the skillet.
  • These roll-ups freeze well after cooking and cooling completely.
  • Air fryer reheating keeps the roll-ups crispy and fresh.
