Ingredients

  • 500 g flour
  • 60 g butter
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 60 g sugar
  • 250 ml milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 10 g active dry yeast
  • Extra melted butter for brushing
  • 100 g sugar mixed with 1 tablespoon cinnamon (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Activate yeast by mixing it with warm milk and a little sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Melt butter and allow it to cool slightly.
  3. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
  4. Add eggs, melted butter, yeast mixture, and remaining milk. Mix into a dough.
  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  7. Punch down the dough and roll it out to about 5 mm thickness.
  8. Cut into long strips (1–2 cm wide).
  9. Wrap strips around greased rods or sticks in a spiral.
  10. Brush with melted butter and coat in cinnamon sugar.
  11. Bake at 180°C for 15–20 minutes, turning if needed, until golden and caramelized.
  12. Cool slightly, remove from rods, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Ensure yeast is active before mixing.
  • Grease rods well to prevent sticking.
  • Rotate during baking for even browning.
  • Best enjoyed fresh for optimal texture.
  • Customize coatings with cocoa sugar, nuts, or coconut.
