Ingredients

  • 4 small baguettes or 2 large baguettes, halved
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup cooked ground beef or shredded chicken
  • 1/4 cup chopped bell peppers
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Slice baguettes lengthwise and hollow out some of the interior. Place on tray.
  3. Heat olive oil in a pan, sauté garlic briefly, then add tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer 5 minutes.
  4. Spread sauce evenly over bread halves.
  5. Add mozzarella cheese, followed by meat, vegetables, and olives.
  6. Top with more mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
  7. Bake for 12–15 minutes until cheese is melted and golden.
  8. Cool slightly, slice, and serve warm.

  • Avoid too much sauce to prevent soggy bread.
  • Customize with vegetables or different proteins.
  • Use whole wheat bread for a lighter option.
