Ingredients

  • 1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough (8 ounces)
  • 1 pound halal beef or turkey sausage
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup diced bell peppers
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter or olive oil
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the butter or olive oil, then cook the diced onions and bell peppers for 3 to 4 minutes until softened.
  3. Add the halal sausage and cook until fully browned, breaking it into crumbles as it cooks. Drain any excess grease if necessary.
  4. Unroll the crescent roll dough and press it evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Pinch the seams together to create a solid crust layer.
  5. Spread the cooked sausage mixture evenly over the crescent dough.
  6. Sprinkle the cheddar and mozzarella cheese evenly over the sausage mixture.
  7. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper until fully combined.
  8. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the casserole.
  9. Bake uncovered for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the eggs are fully set and the top is golden brown.
  10. Allow the casserole to rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
  11. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve warm.

Notes

  • Cook vegetables beforehand to prevent excess moisture in the casserole.
  • Turkey sausage can be used for a lighter version.
  • You can assemble the casserole the night before and bake it fresh in the morning.
  • Monterey Jack, Swiss, or pepper jack cheese work well as substitutes.
  • Add spinach, mushrooms, or jalapeños for extra flavor and texture.
  • This casserole freezes well for convenient meal prep.
