Ingredients

  • 200 g unsalted butter, softened
  • 200 g granulated sugar
  • 200 g all-purpose flour
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 packet baking powder (about 11 g)
  • 1 packet vanilla sugar (about 7.5 g)
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • butter for greasing the pan
  • a small amount of flour for dusting the pan (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a loaf pan with butter, lightly dusting with flour if needed.
  2. Cream the softened butter with the sugar and vanilla sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Gradually mix in the flour and baking powder until a smooth batter forms.
  5. Divide the batter evenly into two bowls.
  6. Add cocoa powder to one portion and mix until fully combined.
  7. Pour part of the plain batter into the pan, add the chocolate batter, then top with the remaining plain batter.
  8. Gently swirl with a knife to create a marbled effect.
  9. Bake for 40–45 minutes until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Cool slightly in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Add vanilla extract for a stronger flavor.
  • Use part brown sugar for a deeper taste.
  • Mix in chocolate chips for extra richness.
  • Add a little milk for a softer texture.
  • Store at room temperature for up to 3 days.
